photoblog image segway, tourism style

segway, tourism style

San Francisco has added another element to bring in more tourism dollars: A Segway Waterfront tour of the city.   We have seen groups of segways climb the steep hills near Ghirardelli Square.  It costs about $70 for a three hour tour.   I would need to piggyback on one of these, as I would be too busy taking pictures than paying attention to the road in front of me.   To learn more about the tour, go to: http://www.sanfrancisco.com/tour-segway-waterfront/

How delightfully absurd! Reflecting vests, helmets, those funny Segway things running around in a herd like that. Bizarre smile
Kay: Martin, that's what I thought when I saw them at first. How odd they looked zipping up and down the hills. Crawling, really. smile Thanks for your comment!

I have read that many major cities of the world have such segway tours, Kay, and once Donica and I almost signed up for one. I think they would be a riot and one day I'd like to try one of these before I kick the bucket! I've also read that they haven't caught on as well as they first expected...probably because the cost of the machine is too expensive ($5-8,000, I think?).

I love the way you have processed this partially-desaturated photo. This looks like San Fran, and that one street sign is a perfect addition.
Kay: It does look like fun, doesn't it Ginnie? You will have to take pictures when both of you go on a segway ride. I'd like to see them!

What a fun shot, I couldn't imagine using one of these to see a city, but it would save some of the blisters I've had.
Kay: Thank you, Aussie! I agree. Exercise is great, but only if you have good walking shoes for the hills of San Francisco.

Modern tansport. So far in SA I have seen security guards in big parking lots using segways (never knew the name before reading your comment).

In Vienna earlier this year they had them for hire. But what I liked more was the yellow bicycles. You push your Visa into the slot and the lock opens, take your bicycle and start peddaling. Return it before one hour is up - its for free. Otherwise an euro per hour from your credit card.

This is a great picture: row of segways, row of garage doors, row upn row of windows in a nice diagonal arrangement of rows. The yellow jackets stands out nicely in your processing.
Kay: Thank you for your comments, Louis! I was lucky when I took this picture. My sister and I were driving down the street when I saw them coming towards us.

Love it. The framing of them makes them look like ducklings in a line obediently following their mother. And your processing accentuates the sort of absurdity to it.
Kay: Thank you very much, Kathryn!
Very funny and clever use of filter wich gives a surrealist ambiance !
I just had to laugh at that little procession. I love your processing.

It looks so incredibly bizarre doesn't it?

Good choice of colouring, it adds to the atmosphere.

I've seen staff on these in shopping centres in Lisbon, but never seen one in use here in UK.
