photoblog image Mount St. Helens aerial shot

Mount St. Helens aerial shot

Went flying on Sunday. Despite the clouds coming in, we were able to fly around Mount St. Helens in a Piper Commanche. It's amazing to see this mountain, and the aftermath of a volcano...even decades after the eruption. See a picture of the mountain before it erupted at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mt_st_helens.

Mt. Hood can be seen in the background.

I encourage all of my friends here on SC to come out and visit this beautiful area.

A lovely shot Kay: a dramatic one too. Mt St Helens ruined a couple of UK summers in the 1980s after it went Bang!
Kay: Thank you, Chris! Sorry to hear about those ruined summers...

Was just in Portland last weekend, looking for places to live. We're moving in about 6 weeks! I can't wait.
Kay: Wow! You'll have a blast out here, Alex!

One day, one day, Kay! I would love to see this with my own eyes! You are so lucky to have these plane rides. I'd love to hire your one in August for when the tall ships come to Amsterdam!
Kay: Oh that would be stunning, to fly over the tall ships in Amsterdam!! Perhaps one day, Ginnie!

Thats more than enough encouragement. Were you the one flying by the way?
Kay: Hi SAVO, No, I was not the pilot. I was the one with the lens pressed up to the glass, taking pictures and in total awe!

What a magic view Kay
Kay: Thank you, Tony. It was a magical day.
Flying and photography, sounds like heaven! Great shot, like the clouds.
Kay: Thank you, Nigel!
I well remember the eruption, it was spectacular (from a safe distancesmile) Great shot Kay
Kay: I remember it too, Bill. My mom actually ordered a vial of volcanic dust from this explosion. Not sure how much she paid. But she was so in tuned to all the events, as I was.
You've brought us a view we don't get to see often. Stunning.
Kay: Thank you, Mary!

Super view, you are lucky to have access to these flights to get shots like these, great capture smile
Kay: Hi Linda, Yes I am lucky. Normally I would not be doing this, but fortunately, one of my friends up here is a pilot, and for a few dollars, he takes me on photo shoots. smile

I love the floating clouds, I'm a sucker for these types of clouds, being a cloud junkie.
Kay: Hi Maria, me too...I love the clouds. It gives the sky personality, and if you are above the clouds, you can see the shadows on the land below. It's beautiful. I'll be posting those shots soon.
Fantastic shot Kay. What a wonderful experience to fly around here.
Kay: It is beautiful here. I can't complain. I even love the rain.
Merci de nous faire prendre de la hauteur !
Kay: Merci pour votre commentaire belle! J'adore prendre des photos de l'avion!

Kay: I was in heaven, Astrid! I kept exclaiming, "Oh my GOD!" over and over. I could not believe what I was seeing smile This has to have been one of the top three photo shoots I've been on.
